Mounjaro: prescribing by GP Surgeries

Posted by: sarahchalmers - Posted on:

Despite the Media reports that Mounjaro is now available under the NHS, we would like to advise that this will ONLY APPLY to a limited group of patients who meet strict criteria. If you do not meet the criteria, the GP will not issue you a prescription.

The criteria to qualify for GP prescribed Mounjaro is very strict. Please see the eligibility criteria below.

  • Aged over 18
  • Your BMI must be above 40 or 37.5+ if from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background. You can check your BMI on the NHS website (check your BMI here) if you know your height and weight. We will check your height and weight at your appointment, so it must be accurate.

As well as a BMI over 40 / 37.5, you must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five health conditions:

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
  • Sleep apnoea (confirmed at a sleep clinic)
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, vascular disease, or stroke)
  • Hypercholesterolaemia (high cholesterol)

Please do not contact the surgery requesting Mounjaro; appointments for weight loss injections will only be for those who are eligible.

Keep our phone lines free for those in medical need.
